Compositing Fun with Photoshop

I love playing around with images in Photoshop, and get a special kick out of compositing images together in unique and creative ways. For example, you can put your face onto the body of a supermodel (always a good choice when creating a profile picture for yourself). Or put your dog on the moon. Or whatever! Your only limit is the depth of your creativity and the time you have available to express yourself.

The video2brain library includes several courses that offer lessons on compositing techniques. For example Tim Grey’s Using Layer Masks for Image Editing in Adobe Photoshop CS5 has a great chapter on compositing images. Or if you use Photoshop Elements, then take a look at Ted LoCascio’s Combining Images with Photoshop Elements 9 for some fabulous tips and examples.

I find that my favorite composited images often come from letting the feeling of the image inspire me. For example, these two horses playing in a field looked like they belonged on a carousel — so I put them there using Photoshop layers and the Healing Brush tool. I like the whimsical idea of the horses on the merry-go-round coming to life. You don’t have to be an expert at Photoshop to come up with some wonderful composited images, but it sure is handy to have the video2brain Photoshop experts there to help you along the way. Give it a try and have some fun!
