We all know that Adobe Photoshop can make your good photos look great. However, artists like video2brain trainer Uli Staiger take Photoshop to a whole new level. Instead of making what was already there in the image look better, Uli creates amazing scenes by combining bits and pieces of different photos and adding lots of creative touches.
To see what I mean, check out his “Photoshop Artist in Action” series of courses focusing on specific creative projects. For example, in Photoshop Artist in Action: Uli Staiger’s Atlantis, you’ll learn about painting with light as you create a scene of Atlantis and add glowing fireflies. Or, in Photoshop Artist in Action: Uli Staiger’s Skytrain, you can see how to use a rendered 3D object to create a stylish futuristic cityscape. If creating a fairy tale scene with giant bugs is more your speed, check out Photoshop Artist in Action: Uli Staiger’s Wasp Attack. I have to admit that one freaked me out a little at first — those wasps looked so realistic it gave me the creeps.
These courses are all a lot of fun, but I think my favorite one of all is Photoshop Artist in Action: Uli Staiger’s Powered by Nature. In it you’ll learn to create custom brush tips, use Smart Objects, and apply layer styles as he creates a fantastical scene of cows being floated into the sky by hot air balloons. Love it! In this free video, Uli creates a furry brush tip and masks the image of the cow manually to remove the background. While you might not have a pressing need to create images of floating cows, I guarantee that the techniques he demonstrates will come in handy on another project for you down the road.
